Vineyard Notes
Vineyard Notes
Our Vineyard blocks for our Barrel Select Cabernet Sauvignon lies at the northern tip of the AVA.  It sits above 2000 feet above sea level and 10 miles from the pacific ocean,  setting these vines above the fog layer. At this elevation, the vines are gently cooled by onshore breezes from the Pacific Ocean which creates a dry environment that in conjunction with the sparse and lean rocky soil leads to an extreme growing condition for our fruit.    Rockpile is Sonoma's most exciting Bordeaux Varietal Growing area the vineyard where we harvested these grapes are steep, sun exposed slopes, sparse and well drained rocky soils.
Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Despite a lighter crop compared to previous vintages, 2015 produced smaller intense berries that created fruit that was more concentrated and intense. Our 2015 Barrel Select Cabernet Sauvignon is full bodied and full of ripe fruit. The bouquet introduces itself as savory with tobacco leaf, cinnamon, coco and leather with underling fruit of black current and anise.
Winemaker Notes
Winemaker Notes
We start with making good harvest decisions that are in line with our philosophy, that begin at the earliest stages of ripeness, that the finished wine will display both varietal character and a sense of place along with more focus on the fruit. We are always looking for expressions of the true varietal character. 2015 Vintage year was an early and short year but delivered another stellar vintage. The 2015 vintage offered excellent growing conditions. A mild winter and spring compounded with almost no rain contributed to early ripening, low to moderate yields and highly concentrated grapes resulting in exceptional quality. 2015 is one of the earliest vintages we’ve seen in over a decade, but it will also go down as one of the best.
