Background and History
Russian River Valley AVA founded in 1983. Russian River Valley is west of Napa in Sonoma County, the AVA offers a cooler growing climate with abundant fog from the Pacific Ocean. 2018 offered winemakers an exceptional year. Russian River Valley had a long growing season with moderate temperatures. Sonoma encountered an increase in rainfall in the spring, with some notable heat spikes in mid-summer months.  However, it was a mild summer which created tolerable conditions for fruit to mature slowly without additional heat stress. 2018 produced higher yields and pinot's produced in this vintage were nice in intensity and abundant.

Sonoma County did not suffer any heat waves or fires this summer so the ripening was slow and steady. We picked much later this year as mild days continued into September. This vintage will be characterized by good acidities and lower alcohols.

Our Estate at Paradise Ridge is home for our Pinot Blocks.
5.4 Acres were planted in 2007, there are 2 clones or Pinot Noir on our estate, Dijon 777 and Pommard. Each clone brings its own distinctive character to the wine.
The 777 is linear with bright red fruit and spice where the Pommard is more voluptuous with a broader, dark fruit profile.
Wine Maker Notes.
Gentle is the way to go with our Pinot Noir from hand harvesting during the coolest hour of the daybreak, to the de-stemming process where capturing as many whole berries is our goal. Fermentation in small specially designed open tops with a small cap capability allows us to fully extract all the flavor within the berries without having to utilize the harsher punch down techniques.

Tasting Notes:
We here at Paradise have named this wine after out founder and patriarch Dr. Walter Byck . On any given day you can come to Paradise Ridge and see Dr. Byck sipping on his namesake. This Pinot Noir is approachable for all palate's its medium bodied, highly aromatic of bing cherry, mushroom and strawberry compote. The wine itself is youthful and bright.
